Centenary celebration: Feast of Christ the King Shared Table – Sunday 23rd November

Event details

  • 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
  • Saturday | 23rd November 2025
  • Christ the King Parish Hall

The Feast of Christ the King was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI.

In the aftermath of WWI, during the rise of Communism in Russia, the pope instituted the feast with his 1925 encyclical Quas Primas. Its first celebration took place in 1926.

The feast was a response to the rise of secularisation, atheism, and communism.

While the world was increasingly telling Christians that they must compartmentalise their religion and give their highest allegiance to the state, in this feast the Pope called the world to remember, that Christ is our King.

On this day we will celebrate the occasion at Christ the King church with a Parish Family Mass at 11am.

This will be followed by a celebration in the hall.

We invite parishioners to bring food for a shared table, particularly food or drink representing the diversity of nations making up our parish.

If you can contribute, please contact the parish office with details to assist in our preparations for the day.

All are welcome.
